Lindley’s Laconics
Greetings my friends!
We had a nice turnout
(about 50 members and wives) for the annual chili supper. The weather was
nice for a change and we had plenty of chili and desserts. Thanks to Harry
and everyone at the Cayce Fire Department for letting us use their facility,
don’t forget we will have to pay them back in June at their annual fund
raiser. Thanks to everyone who made chili for the supper and thanks to all
the ladies for the excellent desserts. I think everyone had a good time.
Andy Rafferty came over 400 miles to attend, now that is dedication to the
club!
We did not get a very
good response at the chili supper for the rollout of the advertising sales.
I know people generally don’t like asking others for money especially during
times of financial downturn, but the fact is that this is a major fund
raiser for our club and a source of funding for many of our activities. If
everyone in the club could just sell a couple of $25 ads we would exceed our
budgeted amount with ease. The deadline for turning in the paperwork is
April 5th however if you have some sold after that we will do our
best to get them in. Completed paperwork and money can be turned in to
Mitchell Gurley or Lindley Clark. You can call Lindley at 901-831-7158 for
assistance or to come and pick up your paperwork.
Club Business
The dues are due
The annual dues of
$30 are now due and payable. Several members have sent in there dues by
mail and we appreciate their prompt response. Again the dues are an
important part of our operating budget each year so it is important that we
get them in as early as possible. Any new members who joined at the 2007
Sorghum Festival or later are considered to be paid up for 2008. If you
can’t attend our events please send your dues to Lindley Clark: 260 Odom
Road, Hernando Ms 38632. We have several members who did not pay their dues
in 2007 and who as far as I know did not attend any 2007 club events. From
this we have to assume that these people are no longer interested in our
club. At present these people are still on our mailing list. If we do not
hear from you or receive your 2008 dues by the Memorial Day show we will be
forced to remove you from our mailing list.
Show Videos
The first 30 minute
video from the October show is ready. Videos can also be ordered from the
club webpage if you have email. Go to www. Midsouthflywheelers.com or
contact Kenny Vaughn.
Two Shows on April
19th
We have two events that
we need to support on April 19th. One is the Olive Branch Ole
Town Antique Tractor show which we have been attending for the past two or
three years. The second is a fund raising event for the Independence Middle
School. Member David Shackleford and his significant other have asked us to
help them out by bringing some antique tractors down there for display. If
you can please take a tractor by down there and drop it off on the way to
the Olive Branch show. A short tractor ride is planned for 3pm. Security
will be provided for equipment left on Friday afternoon. For more
information call David at 662-233-4479.
First Annual Tractor
Ride
Gerald Young and his
wife have been working hard to develop the details for the first annual
tractor ride for the club. Tractor rides are the hottest thing going now for
antique tractor clubs and ours should be a big one with as many tractors as
we have in our area. The ride will be open to anyone who has a road worthy
tractor who wants to participate. All proceeds from the ride registration
fees ( after club expenses) will be donated to a local charity ( yet to be
identified) in the club’s name. We intend to coordinate with the selected
charity and the local press to glean some nice publicity for our club. There
will be a special mailer developed that will be distributed to all club
members and to other local clubs announcing the ride and the applicable
rules. The ride will take place along the backroads of Desoto County. I hope
that all club members who are able and have road worthy tractors will do
their best to participate in this event. It will be fun; the route as is now
worked out is about 30 miles. This may seem like a long way to those who
have never participated in a ride but I have participated in a 45 mile ride
and it went by pretty fast. Believe me folks these things are fun!
Annual Schedule
These are the events
that we currently know of that we are planning to attend / promote as a club
